Made in Hawaii Foods is all about buying local. Our slogan “Homegrown, Homemade. Spread the Aloha.” says it all. We use home grown ingredients, manufacture it in Hawaii and spread it around the world via our residents' tradition of bringing gifts to family and friends and visitor purchases.
We manufacture over 40 different “flavors of Hawaii” in our ISLAND PRESERVE brand line of jams, jellies and fruit spreads. Our Kula Strawberry Jam and Maui Onion Pepper Jelly is not only made from fresh produce grown on Maui but we also use Maui Natural Sugar produced by Hawaiian Commercial and Sugar. From the Big Island we use Meyer lemons and seedless limes from Wailea Agricultural Group, jaboticaba, poha berry, guava, ohelo berry, liliko’i, Hawaiian chili peppers, and papaya to make delicious cream cheeses, butters and fruit spreads. And the list continues to grow as we produce limited editions of exotic fruit products products to support Big Island farmers’ experimental crops.
Our “flavors of Hawaii” theme is also carried through our SATURDAY GRANDMA’S brand of oriental food products. In our SATURDAY GRANDMA’S mochi line, we manufacture Fresh Strawberry Mochi using Maui Strawberries from Kula Country Farms and produce a puffed rice snack called Macadamia Nut Okoshi using macadamia nuts from MacFarms.
And it doesn’t end there. In our Made in Hawaii Foods factory outlet besides selling our own line of products we also carry lines from over 30 different small Hawaii food manufacturers including Hawaiian Chip Co., Tanga Co., Hawaiian Fudge Sauce, The Tea Chest, Arturo’s, Som’ Good Things, Maui Upcountry Jams and Jellies and more.
The Made in Hawaii Foods story actually began in 2003 when our “Made in Hawaii Store” was destroyed by fire in and “Made in Hawaii Foods” literally rose from the ashes. "Made in Hawaii Store" was located in Aiea in the former Kanda’s Delicatessen and the neighboring store was a victim of arson that wiped out our store as well. At the time, it looked like it was the worst thing that could happen to a business but this seemingly overwhelming challenge helped us understand and appreciate the importance of ‘ohana. With the help and support of family, friends and dedicated employees we actually made lemons into lemonade by moving to a warehouse bay on Moanalua Road with visibility from the main thoroughfare. We opened our factory in February 2004 with the intent to specialize in foods and thus changed our trade name to “Made in Hawaii Foods”. Today, we feel blessed that our ‘ohana of 30 employees have helped us rise from the ashes and helped us grow our ISLAND PRESERVE brand and our SATURDAY GRANDMA’S brand and continue to “Spread the Aloha” with our homegrown and homemade products.
